The statues of two people relaxing ~ my favourite |
If you are looking for a quieter accommodation with natural setting like us, try Taman Harum Cottages. It is about 10-minute drive from Ubud town. But the plus point is this hotel provides free shuttle to and from Ubud town. So, the distance is not a problem at all. The shuttle service operates from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.

Our room ~ looks nice but hard and creaking bed |

The living room |
Other than that, we chose Taman Harum because it had the Balinese architecture and the highlight was a garden bathroom. Imagine taking your bath and enjoying the serenity of the environment and the sound of crickets. Mosquitoes were not a problem as the hotel room was well-equipped with electronic mosquito repellents and mosquito coils. Our room looked modern and it had a large double bed (made up of two single beds), a living room and of course, a large bathroom. It was also tastefully decorated with Balinese artwork. We did not like the hard bed and it creaked whenever we tossed.

Yes!! The garden bathroom... |
Taman Harum Cottages hotel rooms are located in different blocks. So, it looks like a number of small houses surrounded by gardens in a gated area. The breakfast area is also another block by itself.

Rest and relax anytime in the garden |
It offered basic facilities like the outdoor swimming pool (which is rather small) and the room we booked came with daily complimentary breakfast for two. The breakfast choices were limited but we were okay with that as the taste was good. The best part was the fresh juice that they served during breakfast. We enjoyed the Balinese music that was being played at the restaurant every morning.

Western breakfast (brown bread, half-boiled eggs, bacon, tea or coffee) and fresh juice |

Balinese style breakfast: fried noodle or fried rice, but we still prefer the Western breakfast |
Arranging for Bali accommodation has taught us one thing. Sometimes, we can get a better room rate by e-mailing our reservation to them. We initially booked a Standard Room on the ground floor at USD 44 ++ per night for four nights but on our arrival, our room was upgraded to a Superior Room at the same rate. Yes, we were indeed delighted as the Superior Room was very new and clean. The rate USD 44++ was also lower than the rate we saw in Agoda. However, the room rate was subjected to 21% tax (11% government tax and 10% service charge).
Oh yes! Taman Harum provides one-way complimentary airport pick-up or drop-off if one were to book their stay for four nights at their place. So, we grabbed the offer since we were thinking of spending more days in Ubud. We were also grateful that the driver from hotel had actually waited for us for two hours because our flight from KL was delayed.

Delta Dewata, a convenience store, just across the road |
Last but not least, another plus point is there is a convenience store, Delta Dewata, just opposite the hotel. Did I mention that this hotel owner is a renowned woodcarver and his wife runs the the place? So, at that same time, we managed to view some wood carvings and statues around the hotel.
