The trip in a nutshell (the recommended ones are in bold):
Day 1: Check in hotel Hanoi A1 - Visit Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple - Dinner at hotel - Shop at night market along Hang Dao/Hang Ngang - Coffee at Trung Nguyen - Watch Water Puppet Show.
Day 2: Breakfast at hotel - Lunch at New Day Restaurant - Visit 87 Ma May traditional house - Tea break at a fresh fruit stall - Visit Thang Long gate - Dinner at Com Pho Co - Shop along Dinh Tien Hoang Street (for souvenirs).
Day 3: Breakfast and lunch at hotel - Shop at Cau Go Street (for souvenirs and Vietnam T-shirts), Hang Gai Street (silk street), Luong Van Can Street (for toys), Hong Lam (for preserved fruits / o mai) at Hang Duong Street - Dinner at Cha Ca La Vong
Day 4: Breakfast at hotel - Halong Bay tour (Visit fishing village, wet caves and Thien Cung Cave) - Lunch on board - Dinner at Xoi Yen Restaurant and KFC
Day 5: Breakfast at hotel - Visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, House on Stilt and One Pillar Pagoda - Lunch at KOTO - Visit Temple of Literature (Van Mieu) - Visit Tran Quoc Pagoda - Tea break at Kem Ho Tay - Visit West Lake (Ho Tay) and Truc Bach Lake - Dinner at Banh Tom Ho Tay - Stroll along Hoan Kiem Lake at night
Day 6: Breakfast at hotel - Take electric car at Hoan Kiem Lake to visit St Joseph's cathedral, Opera House and Le Thai To statue - Lunch at New Day Restaurant - Visit Ta Hien street, Hang Ma and Dong Xuan Market - Dinner: Takeaway baguette - Stroll along Hoan Kiem Lake at night

What we missed out:
- Thang Long Citadel (at Hoang Dieu St.)
- Ho Chi Minh Museum (near Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum)
- Quan An Ngon (a recommended eating outlet for all kinds of Vietnamese food at a reasonable price) (at 18, Phan Boi Chau Street)
- Women Museum
- Museum of Ethnology
