The glowing name of the restaurant at night |
Just across the road from Tran Quoc Pagoda, we found a restaurant for us to dine in. Banh Tom Ho Tay restaurant is famous for its banh tom (a traditional shrimp cake). Ho Tay in Vietnamese means the West Lake. Ironically, Banh Tom Ho Tay is sitting on the Truc Bach Lake, a smaller lake next to West Lake.
The mesmerizing night view from the Banh Tom Ho Tay |
It had a beautiful lake view at night and we were impressed. After we sat down, we only realised that we were their first customers for the evening. We were a little uneasy at first as they seemed to have only a waiter who could speak English. Therefore, he was the one who entertained us the whole time.
A while later, more customers came but until the time we finished our dinner, it was still not packed. We had ordered their signature dish, banh tom ho tay (shrimp cake) (which is the name of the restaurant too), seafood soup, fried noodle with chicken and a chao ca (fish gruel).
Banh Tom Ho Tay (shrimp cake) set for two |
The above picture is the set of banh tom ho tay. By the side is the citrus dipping sauce and in the background is a plate of fresh salad. Thumbs up!
The rich seafood soup |
Rich in a variety of seafood such as shrimps and the rest, this bowl was very appetizing. The portion was meant for only one person.
The fried noodle with chicken and a host of colourful vege |
The fried noodle was tantalizing by the look and also its taste. Packed with ingredients like carrots, mushrooms, capsicums, leafy mustard and chicken, it made us wanting more. The noodle was the finer one like Maggi noodle.
Simple but good: cha ca |
Well, after days of being away from home, we craved for something simple like a bowl of home-cooked porridge. The above is chao ca (fish gruel). It was hot and comforting to us during the cold weather there.
We loved all the dishes so we ate heartily. We enjoyed the cool breeze of the lake. By the time we finished our dinner, the lights of the surrounding hotels and restaurants across the lake had already lit up. The night view was just perfect for our cameras.
Our satisfying dinner for the night |
A towelette for each patron; no idea whether the cost is included in our bill |
In total, we spent 235,000 dong (RM 35) (USD 11) for our dinner (inclusive of two juices). The price was quite reasonable.
Address: Thanh Nien, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, Vietnam.
