This was our food hunt trail in Sungai Petani, Kedah. In fact, this was our first time in Sungai Petani or popularly known as SP.
EUPE food court at Jalan Kelab Cinta Sayang, SP |
We heard from an SP friend that there was a famous curry mee (noodle) stall that attracted lines of customers. So, our first destination was to savour the fish curry mee (unlike the usual curry mee that had prawns, cockles and pigs' blood).
Long queue for the curry mee (noodle) |
Curry mee (noodle) in the making and in a hurry |
The stall was located at UPE food court, Jalan Kelab Cinta Sayang. We parked behind the food court and quickly searched for the curry mee stall. It was quite easy to find as it was the only stall with a long queue of customers. So, I quickly joined the line and waited for our turn. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to buy our curry mee.
Fish curry mee (noodle) in nyonya curry soup |
We ordered curry mee with extra fish and each bowl of curry mee only cost RM 6. There were a few big slices of the fish, a slice of hard-boiled egg, some pieces of lady fingers and tomatoes served in nyonya curry and yellow noodle. It was real mouth-watering and spicy too. We practically finished the whole bowl including the curry soup. Yes, we would come back again to savour SP fish curry mee.
Chicken pie looks tempting |
There was also a bakery in the food court called Just Bread bakery. I bought a piece of chicken pie to try. It was delicious but a little oily for me. It was RM 3 per piece. The bakery also sold some organic snacks.

Next, we stopped for loh mee (noodle with thick gravy). This stall was in a coffee shop along Jalan Kuala Ketil, SP near the Caltex petrol station. It was also different from the one we had in Penang.
Loh mee (noodle) |
The bowl of loh mee had a very thick gravy that came with a very strong aroma of five herbs and spices. However, it was not served with blended garlic. I personally did not like it but my hubby did. I found it to be real sticky.
Loh mee in preparation |
So, this was the end of our SP food hunt and we went sniffing to the historical site of Lembah Bujang (Bujang Valley) which we had read about in our History book in school. Yes, we finally made our plan to visit this place to understand and see for ourselves the historical site in our own country, Malaysia. After our visit to Bujang Valley, we drove up to the peak of Gunung Jerai (Mount Jerai) for fresh air and beautiful view.
Direction to SP from Penang:
